Jar candles are the long-burn option: hand-poured into a sealed glass or ceramic vessel that contains the melt pool, holds the scent and keeps burning for many evenings rather than one. The vessel is worth keeping for pens or brushes afterwards.
Give the first burn two to three hours so the wax melts to the edge, or the candle will tunnel and you will lose a third of it down the sides. Trim the wick before every burn, and stop burning once about a centimetre of wax remains so the glass does not overheat.
