Votive candles sit between a tea light and a full pillar: enough burn time for a dinner, small enough to use several at once without it feeling extravagant. Hand-poured in glass and ceramic votives you can refill or repurpose afterwards.
Because votives are usually enclosed, they hold their flame better outdoors on a still evening than an open tea light does. Keep the wick trimmed to five millimetres and let the first burn reach the vessel edge so the wax pools evenly instead of tunnelling down the centre.
